I am writing the second time here today just to say that I wish I was in Europe right now or more specifically Stoneleigh Park, Coventry. That is where Race Retro’s premier Motorsport
History of Europe show is being held. (Which does go back quite a long way.)The show is being held starting tomorrow 14th March up until 16th March. If you do not know about the Race Retro show then watch the
google video to get a good idead of what it’s all about.
The fun thing is that the guys who assemble there need’nt worry about missing the first race of the F1 season as well, live shows will be screened indoors as well outdoors so that the drunk and fun crowd can go berserk together during every important moment during the race. What a grand way to celebrate passion for motor racing!!!
Kimi has been my favorite in spite of Schumacher still racing till last year, I always liked how he could produce something special out of ordinary
cars and situations (a thing Schumacher was also known for) But I was anti-Schumacher/Ferrari Dominance on the sport because it made the sport boring. And Kimi in the Mclaren was never a spring chicken. As I have stated elsewhere, the only driver who could compete with Schumi after Hakkinen retired. Alonso I think won simply because the Renault guys had superior cars in those periods and Renault was a team which was willing to make poor old Fisichella a second fiddle for Alonso’s worth. We all know what happened in 2007 when McLaren in this respect played it fair and gave both their
drivers equal opportunities.
Since this is about sportsmanship, good attitude as much as it is about skill and achievements, I think the award should go to Kimi. I am all for it going to Kimi but Hamilton is good guy as well, they can give it to him as well who has proved he has all the skill needed to be a fantastic racer. Thank god they did not include Mr. Attitude Fernando Alonso.
Found the news on one of
Motor Authority posts which is a nice read always if you are a motor sport freak like me.
It’s off topic here but the big numbers in India’s other cherished sport - Cricket are worth a mention! Among the top bidders were
Vijay Mallya, another industrialist Mukesh Ambani and then bollywood biggies like Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Preity Zinta. In the order of mention, Vijay Mallya who it seems now is a very big sports fan (and some one who is generous in throwing
money on the things he loves) won the bid for the Bangalore team ($111.6 million) Says Kingfisher/UB group will use this channel to promote their brand and are very excited. I am sure he is. Mukesh Ambani of Relliance Industries won the most sort after Mumbai team ($111.9 million,) Shahrukh along Juhi and Jay Mehta got the Kolkata team ($75.09 million,) Preity & her flame — Ness Wadia won the bid for the Mohali team ($76 million.) Whew some big numbers there!
All in all, Indian cricket was auctioned for a whopping $718 million on Thursday. That alone is a figure that may have been unimaginable till a few years ago, but when $1.02 billion, which flowed into the coffers following the sale of the TV rights for the Indian Premier League (IPL), is added to it, it becomes mind-boggling at $1.72 billion that’s a lot of cash whew… but there’s one thing of course that the money has to be paid over a period of ten years. So, the numbers then are still big but not THAT BIG. But one thing is certain that such a model is great for the sport and the many good players that are stuck in the domestic circuit. Maybe if racing really takes of than we can have a thing like this or like the American Nascar Series here in India in the coming decade as well. (One can hope at least)
Shahrukh Khan who’s one of the best brains in Indian Films himself talks about what he thinks this is about in the Video by CNN IBN:
