In June 2007, F1 supremo Bernie Eccleston gave his nod for a F1 Grand Prix to be held in India, it came after a lot lobbying by India Olympic Association (IOA) and other interested parties in India but now that the nod has been given, every one is happy. Come 2009, we could see our Force India boys and the likes of Kimi, Hamilton, Alonso going at it on a racing track New Delhi. And don’t forget this means a Grand Prix every single year!

Indian GP

In a letter to Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi, Ecclestone said:

“I am writing to confirm the basis of our common understanding on the way forward to bring to fruition our shared aim that a Formula One Grand Prix of India event be staged as a round of the FIA Formula One World Championship.”

Me, I am just a tad bit disappointed that the GP isn’t being held in Mumbai or somewhere close by. Now that Delhi has been chosen, I will have to blow an ever bigger wad of money to go all the way to Delhi and see a GP, I don’t think I will be attending the 1st GP though.

So anyways, If all goes as planned there will be a grand prix in Delhi in the October of 2009. On behalf of the IOA, it’s president Suresh Kalmadi had this to say:

“We are determined to make it happen. We have a lot of work to do… it’s a great challenge, but we will ensure that we avail the opportunity to make it a grand show. Now it’s just a matter of time before a memorandum of understanding is signed between Bernie and IOA,”

Well, best of luck to them!!
