As it turned out, McLaren dominated Ferrari in the first qualifying round of this years championship. Hamilton set a time of 1 min 25.714 seconds which was faster than BMWHamilton on Pole Sauber’s Robert Kubica by 0.155 seconds. Yes, you read that right, Robert Kubica will be starting at second position ahead of McLarens Heikki Kovaleinen who’s third. It’s very obvious that Kubica must have been running a very low fuel tank but Second position is still great! Does this mean that BMW Sauber will be strong this season? who knows, we will have to wait and watch. Behind Kubica is Ferrari’s Felipe Massa and last year’s pole position man Kimi Raikkonen set a time good enough for the 16th position on the grid. Poor old Kimi suffered from mechanical problems in his car in the first rounds qualifying season. He was not thrilled about this of course.

“I’m disappointed,” he said. “I had a problem with the electronic fuel pump a few corners from the end of my in-lap, which forced me to stop near the pit lane. It was impossible to get back to the garage to try to fix the problem.

Meanwhile our Force India team didn’t too well in the first round. Fisichella will start 17th in this year’s season opener on Sunday, while his younger German colleague Sutil will be 19th on the grid. The pair of them both couldn’t make the cut in the Q2 session of Qualifiers, Poor old Fisichella fell short by just 1.067 seconds. No miracles for Force India just yet. But this was to be expected. So now, the test I guess for Fisichella and Sutil is whether they can complete the race and take the chequered flag tomorrow. It is reported that Mr. Mallya isn’t even interested in the results the team produces just yet, he knows that it’ll take some time for the team to make progress.

Anyway, so the list of things to watch out in the race tomorrow are:-

  • What Kubica does with his Second position on the grid.
  • Hamilton ofcourse but Heikki as well, it could very well be a 1,2 for McLaren tomorrow.
  • How many positions can Kimi get back.
  • Don’t forget Alonso (qualified 11th) as well, he’s a racer out-n-out and the Renault’s are reputed for being the fastest of the mark when the green lights come on. Let’s see what Alonso can salvage.
  • Wheather the Force India cars finish the race or not.
