Will History Repeat Itself in F1?

When asked how confident he was in the team’s ability,
Vijay Mallya simply said: ”There is a good old English saying which holds that
history repeats itself,” Mallya told Reuters during last week’s final pre-season test in Barcelona. “Jordan was a winning team in 1999, there’s no reason why it can’t go back to its winning ways in 2009.”
Yep, Jordan sure was a winning team in 1999. In fact when the season ended, the team was third, one of it’s drivers Frentzen had won a few races and at one point in the season was also in a position to challenge for the championship!
Eddie Jordan, the man who founded the Jordan F1 racing team [obvious] always had fun in Formula One. The Irish entrepreneur and ex-racer brought along a renegade, rock-n-roll attitude to the sport (that’s incidentally very much Mallya territory as well!)
While the 2008 season will be interesting, the 2009 season promises to be a blast because of many new regulation changes which intend to level the F1 playing field even more. That’s when Mallya and Force India could have a real chance!
The Future
He was caught speaking a lot of common sense in this particular interview after the testing in Barcelona: ”I am a firm believer that
money cannot buy performance so I don’t necessarily subscribe to having a big budget and then taking it for granted that you will succeed,” added the former Toyota sponsor. “I know of many teams with big budgets that are not entirely successful.
“Having said that, 2009 presents us with a unique opportunity. With the new specifications, all the teams have to change significantly so if we are behind the game in 2008 it gives us the ability to be on a par in 2009.”
And if history repeats itself and the team goes back to it’s winning ways in 2009 or 08 for that matter, one thing is for sure, there will be no shortage of booze for the guys at Force India to celebrate with, after all, the king of good times Vijay Mallya is all about high spirits

No doubt Force India have potential, but I think it is too soon to judge, my gut feel probably the team could score not more than 5 point this season. A little bit conservative, but I think it is pretty good for a young team like this…

We’ll definitely put a man on the podium by the end of this decade, this year… it’s a moon-shot without the rocket science
